Program Details
What does the SFP offer?
The Strengthening Families Program is open to voluntary and referred families.
The program offers 3-1 courses
- Parent Training
- Child Skills Training
- Family Life Skills Training
The program includes:
- 14 two hour sessions for the whole family
- A family style dinner
- Child care and transportation
- Gifts and incentives for children
- Graduation ceremony upon completion of the program
- The program is delivered by certified trainers
- 2 Handbooks or Handouts: Parents and children (includes lessons and worksheets)
Expected outcomes for participants
For parents:
- Increase parents’ capacity by developing communication and parenting skills
- Parents have the opportunity to share concerns and build a support network with other participants.
- Parents learn how to reduce stress to enhance their well being
For children:
- Children learn to develop a strong sense of self
- Children are given an opportunity to develop self-esteem and resilience
- Children re-integrate into a new family dynamic with their parent(s)
